Firstly, let me just say what a breath of fresh air it is to have this forum,a platform where we can all pool our knowledge in all manner of topics and help eachother to grow & improve. So a big well done to Ian.
Bait has been a massive part of my life for a very, very long time. At 13 years old as a spotty little teenager, i was relentlessly on all the Top rods cases, bending their ears about bait. I would sit up trees spying in the dark of night, into the early hours, uncomfortable as it was, listening in for any snippet of information that might have given me a clue as to their success, digging around the margins after they had gone, trying to find a bean or pea or a segment of boilie that the bird life had missed. Obsessed would be an understatement. As time went by i realised that getting under peoples skin and being a little 5hit, was not condusive to people opening up and letting me into their world of secrecy, as believe me, back then, nobody told you anything. Fast forward a few decades and discovering that getting the basic fundamentles of location, efficient rigs and bait application correct, you could catch quite a few fish. One thing to me really stood out tho was that a quality bait, correctly formulated, with quality ingredients, ones that tick the boxes of solubility & digestibility, really turned those fish on and often found myself and friends catching the biggest fish in the lake in a very short space of time. This was the catalyst of my bait obsession to this present day.
So, i digress. I would like to know your experiences either good, bad or indifferent regarding what you have found in your own personal fishing that made a difference to your catch rates regarding bait. I would also like to offer my help in answering any questions bait related and take onboard any suggestions or preferences and maybe even incorporate those into our range going forward.......... So my question to you all is as the title suggests. Bait, how do your like yours?.............
Thanks Ian. Early days my friend. We shall see. There are not many Successful forums out there since the advent of faceache, which is a real shame. We can only do our bit. Let us hope it is not just me and you playing forum tennis lol.
Hi Ian, Thanks for the kind words.
Those Bream eh, if only they smelt better then perhaps we would learn to appreciate them more lol. Unfortunately with the bait you use it is not species selective, with bream, barbel, Tench eels and catfish all taking a shine to it. One thing that i have not asked you Ian in private let alone in an open forum is and be totally honest with me here, did you find that with just the inclusion of the Liquid'e' into your home mix it made a considerable difference? Also, would their be a market,in your opinion, or anyone elses for that matter, in a creamy milk protein version of Liquid'e'? The only reason i ask is that white baits seem to be quite vogue ATM and also i have not seen many, if any effective white milk based liquids. As a matter of opinion, would you deem that as a viable road to travel? if so great. If not however, are there avenues or products that any of you guys would like to see brought into the market? One last question also. Does a boilie have to be round? Would and Enzyme based crumb flick any switches ? And would an Enzyme based range of hookbaits be welcomed? Yes, i know thats 3 other questions.......... I look forward to some constructive replies. Be Happ'e'
That’s a great post Dean, hit the follow button ladies and gents as Dean is a master in bait formulation and the man behind UCN! So Dean, with regards to my own angling, bait is obviously a major part of anyone’s approach and I believe once you find a bait that ticks those boxes from your post it almost removes a part of the equation (for want of a better term) and with one less thing going on it means that you can concentrate on making sure the rest of your game is up to scratch! ie location, presentation and mobility. Basically if you KNOW they’ll eat your bait then you are really only left with location and presentation. As for how I like it? I like a boilie and I like it to be spicy soft and neutral in colour. (And large to deter those pesky bream 🤪)...
